Widget vs. The Sippy Cup: Revenge

September 28th, 2008

If you’re long time reader of this blog you may remember my first encounter with a sippy cup in April of this year: Widget vs. The Sippy Cup Well, things have changed. I’m now the boss.

Lady Picasso

What do you know, I can color! Every once in the while Daddy puts crayons in my hands and hopes I’ll start scribbling away. I never understood what he meant until one night at Marie Callender’s. After seating us, the hostess just up and assumed I was an avid colorist and plopped a coloring book and three crayons in front of me. Daddy and Mommy figured the paper would distract me for a few microseconds while they settled in.

To their surprise I was more intrigued by the crayons than the paper. Daddy showed me how crayons make marks on paper. I figured, yeah, I can do that. So I was busy dragging the crayons all over the paper for much longer than a microsecond. I only tried to eat them once or twice.

Mommy and Daddy are excited there’s a new distraction for me so they don’t have to eat their own food in a mad rush.

On top of all the crayon excitement I even got to try some new food: Cornbread! It agrees with me and I ate it up.

PS. Daddy drew the smiley faces. I’m not that figurative yet. I’m going through my abstract phase.

Widget and the game of Hats

September 24th, 2008

If you know me, I like hats. Auntie Karen visited and played the game of Hats with me. The rules are simple: You put as many hats on my head as you can, before I take them off. Unkie Jon watched, but he’s not very good at the game.

Some of my hats are new, but a lot of my hats are hand-me-downs from Ah-Ma’s nice neighbor Shirley. She’s a Grandma, too, but her grandkids are big now.

Unkie Jon and Auntie Karen babysat me Saturday night so Mommy and Daddy could go to a party. I’m sure the party was boring without me.

Someday I’ll be invited to more parties than I can attend and I’ll have to chose between new and popular acquaintances and long-time childhood friends who’ve loyally stood by me. It will be a tough choice, but a lady’s life is full of tough choices. I’ll stop by my old friend’s parties early, then skip out and arrive fashionably late to the popular shindigs. With any luck I’ll be able to juggle my popularity without putting undo strain on my old relationships in case I need help finishing my Science Fair Project that I’ve been too busy to do since I was helping plan the Box Social.

My itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny, yellow-flowered bikini

September 13th, 2008

It’s been months since I’ve visited Lawrence Welk’s house. He wasn’t there so we sneaked into his pool. I really liked the water and playing with Mommy and Daddy. Ah-Ma and Kong Kong were there, too. They watched and kept the towels ready.

I wore my yellow bikini. My pink and blue hat. And my big white shades. I was too cool for that pool. But I stayed on account that I can’t drive or walk.

Someone else pooped in one of the pools and they closed it. It wasn’t me, but I can understand how it could happen. I don’t blame them. Luckily Lawrence has several pools so we just moved on.

Meeting Daphne

September 13th, 2008

Today, I met my second cousin Daphne (on Mommy’s side). She was born in May, six months after me. She grabbed my finger and wouldn’t let go. I just sat there and took it like a good sport. I’m not used to sharing attention. Luckily Daphne went to sleep so I didn’t have to put on a charm offensive.

Visiting my Ah-ma and her teddy bears

September 12th, 2008

It’s been awhile since I visited Ah-Ma’s house. It all seemed new to me. There were lots of things to look at and lots of stuffed animals to play with. Ah-Ma thinks I’m a teddy bear and sat me in the middle of a Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

Mommy’s old room and and old bed are virtually unchanged from when Mommy lived here (except my mommy says Ah-ma brought in all the teddy bears and girly stuff). I think Ah-Ma is sentimental, not too lazy to redecorate. I bet that’s why they take so many pictures of me. Of course it could be because I’m so cute.

We went to eat Peking Duck in San Diego. I made a mess on the floor as I am wont to do these days. I had no duck, but I nibbled some rice.
