Eating with the fishes

January 28th, 2008

Kong Kong turn one gazillion years old in January. We celebrated his birthday by having dinner at Fish House Vera Cruz.

Kong Kong had the lobster and king crab legs. Ah Ma only had soup! Mommy and Daddy also had fish, and it seemed like they enjoyed it.

But most exciting was the restaurant had aquariums everywhere! I didn’t know it, but I love watching fish! They are colorful and move in the strangest ways. Everyone took turns carrying me to look at them all. The big yellow ones are the easiest to see and they don’t move very fast.

The young boy at the table next to us made quite a mess throwing cereal and sugar packets all over the place. Mommy hopes I’m better behaved when I’m in a high chair. Daddy hopes I’m not attracted to such "bad boys" when I’m a teenager. He said I’m already grounded for even looking at him.

Uncle Jon and Auntie Karen

January 20th, 2008

Uncle Jon is a big San Diego Chargers fan. He has a boring old fashioned TV so he came over during the weeks of the play offs to watch the games on my flat screen TV and sit on my comfy couch. He dragged Auntie Karen along, but she didn’t mind so much ’cause she got to play with me. Mommy and Daddy even made me a Charger’s jersey with a black marker for the AFC championship game. I can’t wait until I’m old enough to return the favor and draw on Mommy’s new clothes with a black marker. The Chargers lost their last game and Uncle Jon cried louder than me when I’m hungry!

Baby Boomlet

January 16th, 2008

So what if I am a busy baby, I do try to keep up on world events occasionally. I don’t know how 2007 or 2008 is shaping up; but we know 2006 was a doozy for births.

Bucking the trend in many other wealthy industrialized nations, the United States seems to be experiencing a baby boomlet, reporting the largest number of children born in 45 years — nearly 4.3 million births — in 2006

Grump Fest

January 11th, 2008

Things aren’t all peaches and cream here (not that I’d know what they taste like).

I am a high needs, high maintenance baby. Some days I don’t let anyone do anything but soothertain me (aka sooth/entertain me) –  purposely restricting my naps to mere minutes, maximizing parent-child contact ratios.

It’s the nurses and doctors that tell my parents I’m "highly sensitive" or "highly alert" – my parents have no frame of reference having lived baby-free lives for so many years.

Good thing I’m cute!

Look who’s squawking!

January 10th, 2008

OK, so it’s not exactly talking. And you wouldn’t call it cooing. It’s more like a high-pitched squeaking wheel. But I’m vocalizing these squawkings pretty regularly now.

Two for Two!

January 10th, 2008

Well, I’m over two months old this week. Mommy decided that I should graduate to size 2 diapers! They are for babies 12-19 lbs. A hair under 12lbs at my last official weigh-in, I think I’m ready!

Small things come in big packages! Daddy thought I’d look cute posing in the box. Thanks to Costco selling everything in bulk, there’s plenty of room in there for several more size 2 babies. Don’t worry about there being too many diapers for one baby to use up, I will dirty these diapers in no time!

The baby pictured on the box is sitting up! There’s no way I can even do that for one second! Even with Daddy spotting me, I’m no good at balancing on my bum.

Oh, I’m still practicing part-time Elimination Communication (EC), but I don’t communicate my poopsies much. And sometimes they think my fussing is for other reasons and they miss my cues. Yesterday I pee’d in my baby potty three times with the help of Daddy.

Pretend Christmas Two!

January 8th, 2008

Auntie Karen and Uncle Jon spent Christmas in Shanghai. We saved our mutual Christmas presents and exchanged them in 2008 and pretended it was Christmas again. We went to Auntie Karen and Uncle Jon’s house in Pasadena and they had a real Christmas tree for our pretend Christmas. It was also close enough to Auntie Karen’s birthday so we celebrated that too.

Auntie Karen and Uncle Jon gave me a funky Penguin Bowling. They really aren’t for bowling but for touching and playing. They are made of many colors and textures, and each one makes a different sound. I think they should be called Bowlings Pin-guins! Get it? Bowling Pins and Penguins?? I slay myself.  They also gave me a Tummy Time mat shaped like a body board. I still don’t like Tummy Time, but I’m working on it.

We all had Dot’s Cupcakes to commemorate Auntie Karen’s birthday. Mommy was happy about that. She likes all manner of cakes – no matter what size, especially ones with lots of extras and frostings. Auntie Karen got a Wii for her birthday from Ah-ma. Uncle Jon seemed happy about that.

My first trip to the Beach!

January 8th, 2008

So I live pretty near the beach, but I’ve never been! I’ve never even been out for a walk in my stroller. Daddy usually bjorns me.

Anyway, on the last day of 2007, with the weather a little nicer with the sun out, the Taylor clan and Mommy walked me to the beach. My first trip to the beach wasn’t very exciting. I didn’t even get sand in my toes or sea water in my diaper.

They all ate cheeseburgers several hundred yards from the breakers while I got a bottle.

Later we went to the Bolsa Chica Wetlands to look at birds and trash. Texas Grandpa likes to look at birds when he’s not looking at me. The ground was too soft for stollers, so he carried me in the Baby Bjorn. I slept mostly (that’s what I do on outings).
